Niton to Shanklin
Spent another great day, walking on the Isle of Wight. Most of the morning was spent travelling to the start of our walk, beginning with the
Gosport Ferry to Portsmouth Harbour, then the
Wightlink FastCat to Ryde, Isle of Wight. Catching the
Island Bus Bus Number 9 to Newport and then the Number 2 to Ventnor hopping off at Niton which is on the South side of the island.
A lovely route through rolling hills and boggy grasses, we passed sheep, cowes, donkeys, horse riders and even a few alpaca, surprisingly it was an extremely quiet area. The walking paths on the Isle of Wight are well sign posted with a variety of terrains to keep you on your toes, both physically and navigationally. The highlight of todays walk was easily Stenbury Down, standing at 226 metres; you can see the far west and far east of the island, it makes 23 miles look rather small.
With so many walking routes to complish, you would never do the same route twice. With easy travel connections from Southampton, Southsea, Portsmouth and Lymington, anyone can access the Wight.
